          Antibiotics Purification

           Antibiotic is divided into 5 categories in general: β- lactam antibiotics (such as penicillin), amino acid glycoside antibiotics, macrolides antibiotics (such as erythrocin and spiramycin), tetracyclic lactone antibiotics (such as tetracycline) and polypeptide antibiotics (such as vancomycin), and the relative molecular mass is within 300~1200, which is commonly found in liquids. The methods of extraction from fermentation broth mainly include adsorption method, solvent extraction method, ion exchange method and precipitation method, but these processes are often very complicated, time-consuming, need to consume a large amount of raw materials with high energy consumption, and antibiotics are susceptible to inactivation during the long extraction with low product recovery rate, serious waste water pollution, difficulty of processing and low concentration of antibiotics in the obtained solution.
           

              With the continuous innovation of technologies, membrane separation technology and continuous moving bed technology have gradually replaced the traditional plate and frame filtration, fixed bed and other devices in the process of antibiotic extraction, which effectively solves the problems of poor quality of antibiotics, backward processes and poor production environments. Membrane separation technology and continuous moving bed technology have been widely used in the production of many antibiotics, such as penicillin, cephalosporin, erythromycin and colistin sulfate.

              Membrane separation technology and continuous moving bed technology have been widely used in the antibiotic industry:
          •    Ceramic membrane and flat membrane is used to replace the traditional filtration methods to clarify the fermentation liquor, improve the quality of filtrate and reduce the resin pollution and solvent dosage in the later process
          •    The hyperfiltration membrane is used to remove protein and decoloration and improve quality
          •    The nanofiltration membrane is used to concentrate antibiotics, replace or shorten the evaporation and concentration time; increase crystallization yield or reduce evaporation loss
          •    Continuous moving beds are used to replace the fixed beds, save resin dosage and reduce unit consumption
          •    The membrane technology is used to recycle various mother liquors, waste liquids and reclaimed water reuse
          • Technical characteristics:
          •    High yield of active ingredients, which can improve 5~12% compared with the traditional filtration method;
          •    High separation precision, less impurity content in the permeate, clear and transparent, and the difficulty of subsequent processing which can be reduced;
          •    High concentration multiple, greatly reduce the application amount of water, less waste water discharge;
          •    Long continuous working hours, simple and efficient regeneration;
          •    Long service life of membrane elements;
          •    The service life of the matching ion exchange resin and macroporous adsorption resin can be prolonged by 2~3 times;
          •    The price performance ratio is higher than all the effective separation methods;
          •    Form a membrane integrated system, which greatly improves the extraction efficiency.

              The kinetic equation of membrane fouling formation is established to solve the problem of membrane fouling and develop a special membrane cleaning and regeneration method; effectively solve the degradation and deactivation problems of target products; the conventional material washing methods are changed to effectively improve permeation flux and antipollution performance, reduce the amount of water and improve the yield of target products; the solution of these problems achieves the widely application of ceramic membrane in fermentation industry.
